Guatemala: Tikal + Floras

Written by SeanRitchey on February 25, 2011

We’re now in the north, in the [super cute] little town of Floras.  This small island town is the main jump off point of seeing the Mayan Ruins of Tikal and more remote ruins further north.  We’ve been here for a couple days, staying at a lovely hostel called Hostel Los Amigos, where we have a beautiful, airy, private room for $11.25 a night.  Yesterday, we got caught a shuttle to Tikal at 4:30 AM, and had a great tour from a highly entertaining (and knowledgeable) tour guide named Lewis.  If you go to Tikal, I cannot recommend him enough.  My pictures from Tikal came out pretty mixed, but I got some good shots in the evening when we went out walking around Floras, savoring the local street food, enjoying the sunset and swapping travel stories with some new Germain and Australian Friends.
